Wasp keeping in 2010

Post by Vespula squamosa on Sun Jan 03, 2010 2:14 pm

Just wanted to discuss my plans for wasp keeping in the new year!

I'm setting up a site suitable for vespula squamosa to make a nest. That way, at the end of the year, I can collect the nest!

Of course, I'm going to raise polistes again! I raised around 13 colonies in 2009 and I hope to top that in 2010!

I raised mud daubers and mason wasps, too. I'll definitely try those again!

I'm going to try to raise velvet ants and thread waisted wasps again too! I had moderate luck with the Velvet ants and I'd like to try again!

I'd like to branch out too. I wan't to try to keep cicada killers too! I don't see them often here, but you never know! Wink

wasps would be cool to try to keep but i am highly allergic to the sting so i cant even think about keeping those or any related, although they are very cool animals to observe. if you get enough velvet ants to sell i would like to get some from you, those do fasinate me greatly, i would risk it for those. we call them cow killers where i come from

If I get enough I'd be glad to give you some! We call them cow killers here too! Fascinating little cuties!
